Wilbert Franklin Adey, 77, was born June 8, 1934 in Prescott, Missouri, to Wilbert Vance and Elvesta “Ella” (Beale) Adey. He passed away October 2, 2011 at Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, Missouri.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Adey.
Franklin grew up in Ellis Prairie, Missouri, where he also attended school. He married Mildred Lankford on July 9, 1958 in Houston, Missouri.
Franklin joined the Navy August 3, 1953, serving in the Korean War, and was honorably discharged August 2, 1957. He proudly served in the Reserves until August 2, 1961.
After his military service he worked as a heavy equipment operator for James H. Drew for 18 years and was also a member of the Local 513.
In 1969, Franklin along with three of his children was baptized at Flat Rock, the same place he threw each one of his children into so they could learn to swim. He was a member of Gladden Freewill Baptist Church.
Franklin is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mildred of their home in Bucyrus, Missouri; two sons, Steve Adey of Bucyrus and Dwaine Adey and wife Trisha of Houston; three daughters, Janet McCown and husband Alva of Licking, Missouri, Connie Umfress and husband Robert of Success, Missouri, and Beverly Mays and husband David of Lebanon, Missouri; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sue Burdick of Cabool, Missouri.
He loved to fly model airplanes and build anything mechanical, such as dune buggies for his children. Franklin also loved to fly his ultra-light airplane, fish at the lake, hunt and raise his garden. He also went to town every morning to eat breakfast.
Franklin will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Services were at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at Ellis Prairie Baptist Church with Pastor Ted Moore officiating. Burial was in Ellis Prairie Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
