William “Bill” B. Mann of Cabool, Missouri, was born at Noel, Missouri, on September 5, 1936. He was the third son of the late Robert and Verina Mann. Bill passed away at 1:55 p.m. on Friday, April 9, 2010, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, Missouri, at the age of 73.
He grew up on a farm outside of Noel, with three brothers and one sister. He attended Southwest City High School. At age 18 he joined the United States Navy and became an aircraft mechanic/flight engineer.
In 1957 he was united in marriage to Mirita Ardena in Ologape, Zambales. Bill and Mirita had two sons, Robert and Russell. The family settled in Tuscon, Arizona, where Bill retired from the Navy after 24 years of service in 1978. Bill continued his maintenance career where he worked as a supervisor at the Santa Rosa Nursing Home in Tucson for 14 years and then operated his own handyman business.
In 1991 he was baptized in Phoenix, Arizona, on July 21 and was an active member of the Church of Christ (TL). His wife, Mirita, preceded him in death in January 2000.
In 2001, Bill moved to Cabool, where he was united in marriage to his teenage sweetheart, Alice Reed Ice, on October 31, 2001 at the Church of Christ in Houston, Missouri. They resided on the family farm outside of Cabool. He enjoyed being back in the Ozarks where he raised calves on the farm while his health allowed.
Bill was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; one infant sister; his first wife, Merita; and his son, Robert.
Bill is survived by his wife, Alice of the home; a son, Russell of Chandler, Arizona; a brother, Ralph of Cabool; a sister, Nellie of Olathe, Kansas; three stepsons, Edwin Ardena, Bobbie Ardena and wife Yolia, and Jonnie Ardena and wife Nancy of Seattle, Washington; a stepdaughter, Tessie Reyes and husband Vincente of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada; and eight grandchildren, James, Andy and Amy Ardena, Tim and EJ Ardena, Kristine, Katrina, and Robbie Reyes; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by stepsons Everett Ice and wife Pam of Cameron, Missouri, and John Ice and wife Sara of Steilacoom, Washington, and six grandchildren, Nathan, Whitnee and Spencer Ice and Elizabeth, Ian and Isaac Ice.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Elders Andy Brown and David Keeney officiating. Interment with full military honors was in Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
