Jerry Warren Claxton

Mr. Jerry Warren Claxton, 63, of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2009, at his home.

He was born on June 14, 1945 at Jerktail, Missouri, the son of Melvin W. and Venita F (Lawler) Claxton.

Jerry graduated from Hartville High School in 1964.

He was united in marriage to Charlene Short in December of 1972 and to this union one son, Michael, was born.

He had a very special talent of being able to fix anything and he enjoyed sharing that talent with anyone he could; his knowledge and ability was never questioned. If he set his mind to learn how something worked, he did it; he was a self-taught fix-it guy. Just recently, one of his high school teachers said he was one of the smartest students he ever taught and that it was a privilege having known such a person.

He served in the National Guard for six years. Jerry’s employers could always depend on him. He was a truck driver and mechanic for a few years and a serviceman on electrical equipment. He then went to work at Mtn. Grove Schools as assistant maintenance supervisor and then he transferred to the technology department where he worked as long as his health permitted. All of his co-workers have a lot of great memories of him and have said it was a pleasure to have had the opportunity to work with him; many of these people are considered his best friends.

He always enjoyed being with his family, especially the time he was able to spend with his grandson, Dylan.

Jerry was baptized at a young age and had rededicated his life to the Lord in his later years. He was a member of Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church in Mtn. Grove.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene, of the home; his son, Michael, and his grandson, Dylan, of Mtn. Grove; his parents, Melvin and Venita Claxton of Hartville, Missouri; his brother, Brent Claxton of Mtn. Grove; Tina of Mtn. Grove, whom he thought of as a daughter; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Services were at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church in Mtn. Grove with Rev. Ronnie Turner officiating. Pallbearers were Tom Hutchison, Bob Moody, Radell Emmerson, Vernon Long, Scott Short and Richard Nelson. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
