He was born on December 16, 1914 at Phlegton in Douglas County, Missouri, the son of James Robert Coble and Ethel (Wilson) Coble.
Ernest attended elementary school at Vanzant, Missouri, then his freshman year of high school in Ava, Missouri, followed by his sophomore year at Mtn. Grove, Missouri.
At the age of 16 he left home with his brother, Doug and his uncle, Fred Wilson, to head west to find work. For the next 11 years he did all kinds of manual labor including wood cutting, logging, sawmill work and general farm work.
On October 15, 1941 he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country until September 26, 1945 when he was honorably discharged.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ned, Doug, Arthur and Ross; and two sisters, Alice and Erma.
He is survived by one sister, Effie Mae Stevens of Lancaster, California, as well as many nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Graveside services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at Penner Cemetery with Clark Carlo officiating. Interment was in Penner Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool. Online condolences may be made at www.egcfuneralhome.com.
