She was born on December 6, 1932 in Mtn. Home, Arkansas, the daughter of Nevins Joe and Jesse Faye (Cody) Collins. She lived in Mtn. Home until she was nine years old, when the family moved to Mtn. Grove.
Betty worked for three years at Brown Shoe Company in Mtn. Grove before becoming a full-time homemaker.
She was united in marriage to Floyd Rutter on May 27, 1950. They lived in Whittier, California, for seven years and in 1957 moved back to Mtn. Grove where their daughter, Annette, was born.
Betty enjoyed reading and handwork, she took great pride in her yard work and her flowers, and she always had a big garden. Betty and Floyd enjoyed attending all of the school activities in which grandchildren Eric and Emily were involved. They attended Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church in Mtn. Grove as long as her health permitted.
In 2009, Betty was diagnosed with dementia; they then moved to Landmark Villa in Cabool where she enjoyed music. She was crowned Valentine Queen in 2010. Her health continued to decline and in 2012 she moved to Kabul Nursing Home.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Dean, Roy and Bob Collins; three sisters, Nolene Collins, June Hopkins and Corrine Sanders; and one great-granddaughter, Kayden Lea Sloan.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Floyd Rutter; her daughter, Annette Sloan and husband Norris of Mtn. Grove; her grandchildren, Eric Sloan and wife Kayla of Houston, Missouri, and Emily Gariss and husband Cody of Lamar, Missouri; her great-grandchildren, Kenzi and Stryker Sloan and Grady and Emory Gariss; five brothers, Jim Collins and wife Sheryl, Fred Collins and wife Deanna, Larry Collins and wife Trevia, Jack Collins and wife Carolyn, and Charles Collins and wife Vera; as well as many other relatives. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at Lone Star Cemetery near Mtn. Grove with Roger Flint officiating. Interment was in Lone Star Cemetery under the direction of Elliott- Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool. Online condolences may be made at www.egcfuneralhome.com.
