Omer “Glen” Spencer

Omer “Glen” Spencer, son of the late Frank and Norma (Quinn) Spencer, was born on September 24, 1933, in Manes, Missouri, and departed this life on March 2, 2016, in Mountain Grove, Missouri. He was 82 years, five months, and seven days of age.

Glen graduated from Plato High School in 1951, and then joined the United States Coast Guard. Glen was proud to serve his country. He later worked as a foreman at Farmland Industries in Lawrence, Kansas, and retired after 32 years.  

Glen enjoyed doing yard work and working at Hocker Oil “Service Plus” in Mountain Grove for 20 years. He was always ready to lend a helping hand.
Glen was baptized and was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ of Lawrence, Kansas, and in Mountain Grove.

Besides his parents, Glen was preceded in death by his brother, Dorsey Spencer.
He is survived by his loving wife, Donna of the home; his son, Kenneth Spencer; his daughter, Kathy Harris of North Carolina; his brother, Leonard Spencer of Cabool, Missouri; his sister, Bonnie Willhite and husband Dale of Plato, Missouri; grandchildren Kenneth Stowe (Spencer) and Edward Umfred (Spencer) and his wife, Haley; and a host of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and friends who will greatly miss him.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at First Street Church of Christ with ministers Keith Cozart and Steve Spencer officiating. Song selections were “Amazing Grace,” “When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder,” and “Shall We Gather At The River,” led by Phil Driskel. Pallbearers were Steve Spencer, Kerry Spencer, Don Willhite, Jeff Curry, Ronnie Renfrow, and Ronnie Deaton. Honorary pallbearer was Dale Willhite.

Burial was in Rock Springs Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions made be made to Mercy Hospice in care of the funeral home.
