Eugene Ray Davis

Eugene Ray Davis, 83, of Cabool, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at Kabul Nursing Home in Cabool.

He was born on May 12, 1932 near Houston, Missouri, the son of John C. and Fannie (Pollard) Davis.

Gene attended Houston High School and after graduation he moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where he worked laying floors and for a boxing company for several years.
He was united in marriage to Edna Jarrett on March 21, 1953, and to this union two sons were born.

He made peace with his Savior at a huge tent revival in Kansas City and lived a well-devoted life thereafter.
Gene moved his family back to Cabool after the boys were born, as he wanted them to grow up in a small town with wholesome values. He became a skilled carpenter, a master gardener and a devoted husband as he became Edna’s caregiver in her final years. After Edna’s passing, he married Betty Overby and enjoyed many years with her.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Edna and Betty; five sisters, Cora Frisbee, Nellie Mead, Velma Mead, Hazel Noel and Ruby Davis; and his brothers, Alfred Davis, Albert Davis, Charlie Davis and Bill Davis.

He is survived by his sons, Alan Davis and wife Julie of Springfield, Missouri, and Dowell Davis and wife Cindy of Cabool, MO; four grandchildren, Bradley, Brady and Trason Davis and Angela Tate; a great-granddaughter, Melody Tate; two great-grandsons, Lincoln Davis and Eli Burgdorf; a sister, Esther Hobbs; a brother, Arlin Davis; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2016, at the funeral chapel with Rev. Greg Dowler officiating. Pallbearers were Trason Davis, Brad Davis, Brady Davis, Chuck McAninch, Larry Jarrett and Mark Jarrett. Interment was in Jarrett Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool. Online condolences may be made at
