Donna grew up in Cabool, Missouri. She was the first child of Dick and Thelma van der Kamp. She had a younger sister, Opal.
While attending school in Cabool, she was active in MYF and competed at the state level in solo soprano voice and flute. She graduated from Cabool High School with the class of 1955 and came to California and married Harry Witt, her high school sweetheart. They had three children, Ginger, Jordan, and Jacqueline.
She was active in PTA, Girl Scouts, and 4-H while raising her family. While she and Harry were the community leaders of Bloomington Boosters 4-H Club, they had a membership of over 200 kids. She loved to cook, read, crochet, and loved being surrounded by family and friends. She was active in Fontana United Methodist Church choir and sang solos at weddings and special occasions. Once her kids were all in high school, she worked as a teacher’s aide at West Randall Elementary School in Fontana, California, and later ran the computer lab there. Donna loved helping to mold young lives, teaching them to become respectful, responsible, trustworthy and honest. She taught others to be helpful, kind, and to always use good manners, ethics and morals.
After both she and Harry retired in California, they moved back to Cabool until Harry died 12 years later. Harry and Donna rejoined Cabool First United Methodist Church, and she was an active member of Eunice Whittaker Circle, Cabool Art Club, Arts and Crafts Club, Over 49ers, Cabool Alumni Association, and her quilting (girls’ poker) group.
When Harry died 11 years ago, she sold her place in Cabool and moved back to California to be closer to family. She loved hearing from friends from the past and catching up on what was going on in Cabool. She still got the Cabool Enterprise newspaper and would call if she found out something from the paper and not from a phone call from a friend.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Harry.
She is survived by her sister, Opal, and her children, Ginger Witt, Jordan (Tammie) Witt, and Jacqui (Chris) Cloutier. She leaves four grandchildren, Christian (Amanda) Cloutier, Jodi (Steven) Carbett, Mindy Hernandez (Julie Orozco), and Stacey (Steven) Samaro, and three great-grandchildren, Ronald, Zachary and Austin.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Cabool on Friday, April 22, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon in the church basement. Private interment will take place at Mount Ararat Cemetery in Cabool.
