During her lifetime she lived in Kirkwood, Missouri (Kirkwood High School Class of 1954); Stillwater, Oklahoma (Oklahoma A&M Class of 1958); Waynesville, Missouri; XIT Ranch in Hereford, Texas; Webster Groves, Missouri; Kirkwood again while earning her master’s degree in education; Cabool, Missouri; Amarillo, Texas; Boulder City, Nevada; Gelnhausen, Germany; and Carson City, Nevada.
While living in Cabool, she and husband Bob Wilborn raised Cheshire whites on what had been the Crossland place and were active in school and community affairs, Gretchen teaching and Bob serving on the school board. The Wilborn family spent some time in Amarillo before moving to Boulder City where Bob served as director of the Southwestern Bureau of Reclamation of the Lower Colorado Region.
After Bob died, Gretchen was blessed with a caring husband, Jerry Freyholtz, and was privileged to live in Germany where Jerry was director of religious activities for the Southeastern Area of the Armed Services based in Hanau.
Surviving this amazing lady, in addition to her husband, are sisters Janis Hobbs and Robberta Mesenbrink of Rockaway Beach, Missouri; nephews Andy Knapp and Michael Knapp and families of Cabool and Roy Knapp and family of Columbia, Missouri; children Marianne Wilborn and sons Adrian and Anthony of Carson City, Nevada, Bill Wilborn of Henderson, Nevada, and Jim Wilborn and wife Michelle, son Tay, daughter Tawnni, and one granddaughter.
Gretchen’s celebration of life will be held May 8, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. as her cremains are scattered to rest at Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe, Nevada, “One of the most beautiful places on God’s green earth and water.”
