Alvin greatly enjoyed being outdoors and working on his farm. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed being around children and entertaining them. He considered his nieces and nephews as his grandchildren.
Alvin attended Rock Springs Church as long as his health permitted. His family was most important to him. Alvin was a kind and gentle man with a huge heart. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by one infant brother; two brothers, Oliver C. Leighty and John D. Leighty; and one sister, Blanche Kephart.
He is survived by three sisters, Effie Nichols of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Ida Romo and husband Richard of Buckner, Missouri, and Ina Gillespie of Kansas City, Missouri; a nephew, Evert Leighty of Cabool, Missouri; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in Craig-Hurtt Chapel, followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Rock Springs Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.
