Emma Zaida Montgomery

Emma Zaida Montgomery, 88, of Cabool, Missouri, was born on December 8, 1927 near Dover, Arkansas, the daughter of David Newton and Lillie (Ringgold) Mitchell. She passed on to be with the Lord on July 28, 2016.

Upon graduation from Houston High School and Draughan’s Business College, she was employed by Cabool Schools as secretary/bookkeeper for 22 years.

Emma married Earl Montgomery on December 25, 1952 and they moved to a farm east of Cabool and raised two sons, Bill and Steve.

After retirement she had a passion to serve and volunteer at SOS Crisis Center, served on the board of Cabool Senior Center and worked with Cabool History Society for several years. Family research, cemetery mapping, and writing books and articles were projects she enjoyed.
Emma was a longtime member of First Baptist Church. She loved God and family and was a true example of how God has called all to be servants to Him and others.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lee, L.C., Herman, Floyd, Ode, Johnny and Novis; sisters, Alice and Ruby; her husband, Earl; and a son, Steve.

She is survived by her son, Bill Montgomery and wife Linda; daughter-in-law, Lynnette Montgomery; three sisters-in-law; grandchildren, Mike Montgomery, Tracie and Clint Guffey, Todd and Kim Montgomery, Shilo and Curt Matherly, and Shannon and Dusty Strickland; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Daltyn, Austin, Alexis, Kara, Alyssa, Bennet and Julian; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 1, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Cabool with David Carroll officiating. Pallbearers were John Gettys, Joe Montgomery, Todd Montgomery, Mike Montgomery, Curt Matherly and Dusty Strickland. Interment was in Ozark Cemetery near Houston, Missouri, under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool. In lieu of flowers the family has requested contributions be made to Cabool History Society.
