Anita Deloris Lane

Anita Deloris Lane was surrounded by family as the Lord called her home to be reunited with her beloved husband in Heaven on September 10, 2016 at the age of 78.

She was born on October 7, 1937 in Ft. Robinson, Nebraska, the daughter of Ernest and Alma Light. Anita was baptized at the age of 10 at Faith and Hope Church.

The daughter of a U.S. soldier, Anita moved a lot during her childhood. After her father retired from the Army they moved to Cabool, Missouri, where she met John “Jack” Lane. Anita would often reminisce about the day Jack followed her around Cabool repeatedly asking her out. In an attempt to get him to leave her alone she eventually said yes. They were married on October 25, 1955. Jack and Anita made their home and raised their family in the Cabool area as they cherished their 46 years together before Jack passed away in 2002.

Throughout her life Anita dedicated her time and heart to the caring of others. She got her certified nurse’s aide license in 1981 and went on to work at Kabul Nursing Home for 22 years. She had previously worked in downtown Cabool at the soda fountain, dry cleaning business and movie theater.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; Anita loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed telling stories, baking and playing rummy. Anita also loved nature and camping. She caught many fish with her trusty red pole.

Anita was a very talented woman, often working on arts and craft projects. She lit up the dance floor doing the Charleston and jitter bug while Jack and his band played music. Anita will be remembered for her strength, kindness and generosity. She had a great sense of humor with a smile you could never forget, a true lady. She will forever be loved and missed by all who were blessed to have known her.

Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Alma Light; her stepmother, Virginia Light; her husband, John “Jack” Lane; brother, Ernest Light, Jr.; grandson, Shaun Harvey; and great-granddaughter, Jaedyn Beavers.

She is survived by her sisters, Jodie Snyder and husband Ralph of Blytheville, Arkansas, and Juanita Cole of Seymour, Missouri; sister-in-law, Vida Brizendine of Kansas City, Missouri; her children, Michael Light and wife Kelly of Springfield, Missouri, Dennis Lane and wife Stephanie of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, and Wanda “Susie” Crook, Kathy Harvey and husband Daniel, Gary Lane, Linda McMinn, and Dallas “Bo” Lane, all of Cabool; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at the funeral chapel with Rev. Terry Brown officiating. Pallbearers were Daniel Harvey, Justin McMinn, Shane Bradshaw, Kenny Crowl, Jessie Crowl and Jaron Crowl. Anita was laid to rest beside her husband at Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Cabool, under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
