He was born on May 23, 1985 in West Plains, Missouri, the son of John and Frances (Lanclos) Helmers.
Evan grew up in Willow Springs and attended Willow Springs Schools before being home-schooled for his high school years. He was active in the Civil Air Patrol for several years before joining the National Guard, where he served several deployments including 15 months in Iraq.
After receiving his honorable discharge he attended the diesel mechanic program at Vatterott College. He then worked for Diamond International in West Plains before going to work for WDT in Cabool, Missouri.
Evan enjoyed rifle, black powder and bow hunting, anything outdoors, especially spending time with his German shepherd, Smokey. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Willow Springs and the Hilltop Christian Band.
Evan is survived by his parents, John and Frances Helmers; four sisters, Cheri, Lisa, Andrea and Jennifer; two brothers, Benjamin and Lukas; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2017, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Willow Springs with Elliott Anderson officiating. Cremation was under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool. Online condolences may be made at www.egcfuneralhome.com.
