Joyce Ann (Hopkins) Hutcheson

Joyce Ann (Hopkins) Hutcheson went to be with her Lord Jesus on March 17, 2017. She was born July 24, 1935, to William and Emma Hopkins in Herrin, Illinois.

She attended Herrin High School and Southern Illinois University and worked as a bank teller where she met Lee Hutcheson who worked for the Chevrolet division of General Motors. They were united in marriage on May 24, 1958, and had one daughter, Heather. Lee’s work took them from Missouri to Kansas and Michigan and then back to Missouri, where they retired in Cabool in 1985.

Lee and Joyce attended Cabool Christian Church.

Joyce was a wonderful mother and grandmother who enjoyed her grandchildren, gardening, and archeology. She had a lifelong love of books and spent many years volunteering at school libraries and also the Cabool branch of the Texas County Library. She was also an avid Cardinals baseball fan who never missed a game and was even asked out on a date by 1950s Cardinal pitcher Harvey Haddix before meeting her husband, Lee.

Lee passed away in October 2014.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Heather Hutcheson; three grandchildren, Christopher Martindale, Michael Martindale and Elizabeth (Lily) Martindale; one brother, Roger Hopkins of Herrin, Illinois; one sister, Linda (Hopkins) Colton of South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Cabool Christian Church with Jeff Randleman officiating. Pallbearers were Christopher Martindale, Michael Martindale, John Bailey and Forest Nunnery. Interment was in Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
