Michael Anthony Hoffman

Michael Anthony Hoffman was born on March 18, 1960 and celebrated his 57th birthday by going to be with the Lord after a hard fought battle with cancer on March 18, 2017.

Mike was born to Clyde and Ethel Hoffman in Canon City, Colorado. Most of his growing up years were spent in Cabool, Missouri, where he lived on a farm with his family. This is also where he learned to build and work hard with his hands.

As an adult Mike moved to west Texas to work in the gas fields with his lifelong friend, Gary Cross. After a short term of building experience in the Comanche, Texas, area, he moved to Erath County, Texas, where he began building dairy barns. He and Gary started their barn building careers with Bud Sakarada. Later they started their own business in concrete and constructed dairy barns in Texas, Kansas, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Colorado, and Oklahoma under the name Cross Construction.

Known as “Hoffy” to his friends, Mike’s skill in concrete work was well known. He shared his hard work ethic with many of those who worked with him. As one of his friends and coworkers put it, “His personal job notes alone in Erath County and surrounding area are gold.”

Mike loved to create cedar tables and give them as gifts. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, a love he shared with his father, who preceded him in death, as well as with the family that survives him. Being outdoors was an essential part of his life.

Mike loved his family and will be greatly missed by so many who loved him. He married Dorothy Brown on January 26, 1992 and shared 25 years of loving life with her. He loved his children and grandchildren and shared many happy hours as “Papa.”

Mike is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Dublin, Texas; Marilyn Hancock Branham and Michael, and their children, Susanne, Allison, Michael and Abigail of Lawton, Oklahoma; Carolyn Hancock Medina and D.J., and their children, Kara and Truitt, of Dublin, Texas; William Hancock and Nikki of Hico, Texas; Michael Hoffman Davis and his son, Austin, of Cabool, Missouri; Kana Hoffman Davis Wake and family of Billings, Missouri; his mother, Ethel Hoffman of Springfield, Missouri; his siblings, Sherry Hoffman Linville and husband Barry of Strafford, Missouri, James Robert Hoffman and wife Angie of Joplin, Missouri, Stanley Hoffman and wife Jane of Nixa, Missouri, and Patricia Hoffman Dixon and husband Paul of Republic, Missouri. He is survived by many nieces and nephews as well.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Hoffman.

Memorial services for Mike Hoffman will be held on Monday, March 27, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. in Stephenville, Texas, at Harvey Baptist Church Family Life Center.
