Dan Penner, 63, of Republic, Missouri, passed away at home September 28, 2017, with family and friends by his side from a sudden and short battle of brain cancer.
He was born January 20, 1954, in Springfield, Missouri, to Euel and Gladys Penner. Dan grew up in Cabool, Missouri, which he called “the center of the universe.” He attended Southwest Baptist University and Missouri State University where he earned his teaching degree and later his master’s in history. He taught and coached at Republic High School for 20 years where he made many friends, impacted the lives of students and loved coaching football. He left teaching to work for Dayco where again he made many friends and impacted the lives of others. 2017 was his 20th year there.
Dan loved people. He loved encouraging them to be the best person they could be. The last three years of his life were spent teaching the Springfield area men’s Freedom In Christ Ministries. It became his passion to help men know who they are in Christ and to walk a life being fully loved by our Savior, Jesus Christ. He will be missed by so many people.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, two brothers and a nephew.
He is survived by his wife Jenny, daughter Callie, and granddaughter Ellie, along with other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 8, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church of Republic.
