She was born on April 22, 1932 in Douglas County, Missouri, the eldest of five children of Sidney and Ruth (Smith) Hicks.
Eunice was married to Charles Owens on October 15, 1948 in Springfield, Missouri. They spent five years in Sutherlin, Oregon, and upon returning to Missouri they moved to Willow Springs. They were the founders of Blue Buck Full Gospel Church near Willow Springs. Charles was the pastor for many years and Eunice assisted him in numerous ways. Their home was always open to family and friends in time of trouble or times of fun. They were blessed by getting to travel to Israel and were involved in missions ministry in Haiti and Mexico, also a prison ministry to inmates in Missouri facilities.
Upon retirement she enjoyed needlework, reading and was known to make delicious dill pickles from the garden. She was a quiet, gentle person and was dearly loved by her family.
Eunice was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Bentley and Herman Hicks; one sister, Joyce (Hicks) Lovan; and a grandson, John Mark Owens.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Owens of Willow Springs; her children, Randy Owens and wife Sherry of Willow Springs and Judy Thompson and husband Ken of Black Mountain, North Carolina; grandchildren, Joshua Owens and wife Jennifer of Willow Springs and Stuart Thompson of Varnville, South Carolina; great-grandchildren, Mason Owens and Rylee Thompson; one sister, Christine McDaniel and husband Gene of Willow Springs; three sisters-in-law, Lorene Hicks of Willow Springs, Zelma Owens of Pueblo, Colorado, and Marie Owens of West Plains, Missouri; as well as many other relatives and friends. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Graveside services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, 2017, at Pine Grove Cemetery near Willow Springs with family officiating. Pallbearers were Tim McDaniel, Michael McDaniel, Josh Owens, Mason Owens, Jim Owens and Lonnie Owens. Honorary pallbearers were Stuart Thompson and Tom Hicks. Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool, Missouri. Online condolences may be made at www.egcfuneralhome.com.
