Barbara J. Altis

The family had a private burial service on Monday, January 22, 2018, at the family cemetery north of Cabool, Missouri. A memorial service will be held later this spring at First Presbyterian Church, Columbia. The exact date and time of the service will be announced at a later date.
She was born on August 12, 1928, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Birdie Bryant Ekstrum and Harry Gustav Ekstrum.
She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from University of Kansas with a degree in art history.
She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Columbia. She taught Sunday school for many years and was active in the Presbyterian Women’s group.
She was blessed to have traveled extensively, but her favorite time was spent gardening and doing puzzles in Columbia, Missouri, and shelling on the beach in Sanibel, Florida.
Her cheerful personality, quick wit, sense of humor, and vibrant smile will be missed.
She is survived by her elder sister, Carolyn Mabbott Coyne; her three sons and their wives, Kristopher and Susan Altis, Kevin Altis and Nancy Tindle, and Kurtis and Beth Altis; and a daughter, Kandee Altis Bennett; and grandsons Evan Altis and Josef Altis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 16 Hitt Street, Columbia, MO 65201; Columbia Art League, 207 S. 9th Street, Columbia, MO 65201; or a charity of your choice.
