James Thomas Cook, 66, of St. Robert, Missouri, passed away surrounded by loved ones on July 2, 2018 at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia after many years of battling cancer.
He was born on January 27, 1952 in East St. Louis, Illinois, to Uhlan “Bud” and Lilly (Sullivan) Cook.
Jim, as he was affectionately called by family and close friends, spent his early life split between East St. Louis, Illinois, and Cabool, Missouri. After graduating from Cabool High School in 1970, he explored several occupations in and around Texas County. In 1972, he joined the United States Army and continued to serve for the next twenty years. Jim retired from military service in 1992 and returned to Cabool with his wife and their two daughters. The next few years were spent as an over-the-road truck driver, husband, and father. After a car accident in 2005, he returned to St. Robert with his wife and lived there for the remaining years of his life.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Uhlan Cook; his sisters, Alice “Irene” Manning and Mary Woods; his brother, John Cook; brothers-in-law, Junior Manning and Lester Cantrell; and a great-nephew, Cade Allen Cook.
He is survived by his mother, Lily Cook of Cabool; wife, Sena (Clark) Cook of St. Robert; daughters, Christy Cook of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, and Jessica (Steven) Monroe of Warsaw, Missouri; his sisters, Linda Cantrell and Katherine Cook, both of Mtn. Grove; a brother, Richard (Karen) Cook of Jefferson City, Missouri; grandsons Nathaniel Portlock and Shawn Gregory, Jr. and granddaughters Savannah and Cayleigh Monroe.
Visitation was held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2018, at the funeral chapel. Inurnment will be at a later date in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery near Cabool.
