Donna Jean Huffman, 74, of Willow Springs, Missouri, passed away on October 8, 2018 at her home.
She was born on April 27, 1944 in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Herschel and Lois (Bender) Ackerman.
After graduating from St. Mary’s Catholic Girl’s School in Illinois, Donna started her working career. She was a beautician who owned her own beauty shop in Springfield, Illinois. She later worked for the Allis-Chalmers tractor plant, also in Springfield, while married to Kenneth Schnapp. Later she married her current husband, Dale Huffman, and moved to their farm in Willow Springs, Missouri. In Willow Springs, she worked for the Conway-Winter shoe factory while they worked on building their house and farm. Huffman’s Kennels, her and Dale’s kennel and cattery business, was born on their farm and served the Midwest for approximately 15 years outside of Willow Springs. After retiring from the kennel business, she retrained and was a machinist at Springfield Remanufacturing Company in Willow Springs. An injury ended that career and sent her home to enjoy the rest of her years there.
In her spare time, she was an avid gardener and enjoyed her roses every year, and watching the birds and other wildlife out of her kitchen windows.
She is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Dale Huffman of Willow Springs; her son, Steven Schnapp and wife Becky of Humansville, Missouri, and their five children; and her stepsons, Tim Huffman of Springfield, Illinois, and Randy Huffman of California.
Per Donna’s wishes no services will be held. Arrangements were under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool, Missouri. Online condolences may be made at www.egcfuneralhome.com.
