Cathern Josephine Chesterfield, 89, of Cabool, Missouri, passed away on December 10, 2018 at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, Missouri.
She was born on October 20, 1929 in Rock Springs, Nebraska, the daughter of Clyde and Flora Byers. She was raised in Michigan and moved to Cabool in the early 1980s.
She enjoyed attending church, Bible school classes, and especially singing. She was faithful in writing letters and supporting missionaries, as well as dedicating time to the residents of the nursing home prior to becoming a resident herself. She was a member of Cabool Second Baptist Church and attended as long as her health permitted. She was also well known for her collection of “specialty hats.”
Cathern was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Philip Chesterfield; and a son, Lawrence Heikkinen.
She is survived by daughters Susan Smith, Deborah Lamb, Kathleen Radford and Priscilla Maxwell; son Robert Chesterfield; eight grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2018, at the funeral chapel with Rev. Terry Brown officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri, with her husband, Philip.
