LeRoy Eugene Schoessel, 82 – Passed January 9, 2019

LeRoy “Lee” Eugene Schoessel, 82, of Cabool, Missouri, passed away January 9, 2019 at Life Care Center of America in Waynesville, Missouri.

Lee was born February 22, 1936, the youngest of four children of Albert and Loreana (Frederick) Schoessel of Valley Park, St. Louis, Missouri. Their genealogy was from Bavaria, Germany, and Lee was very proud of his family history.

Lee attended school in Eureka Springs, Missouri, and then went on to two years of college. After college he enlisted in the Army National Guard and was on active duty at Fort Bliss, Texas, from 1957-1960. He was trained as a senior engineer equipment mechanic.

He married Judith Hay, and two children were born to this union. They were married 16 years before divorcing.

Lee started his career at McMahon Ford in St. Louis and became a very broad-based mechanic over the next 26 years.

In 1986 Lee married Shirley (Hooper) Bennett in Trinity Baptist Church, Cabool, Missouri. Soon after they moved to Burbank, California. Lee went to work for Beverly Hills Cadillac for several years. He received many honors and rewards for his hard work and dedication to his craft. He was written up numerous times in Cadillac Magazine for being the best of the best. Lee became a master roadside technician and master mechanic after moving to Beverly Hills Cadillac. He was outstanding and deeply respected by his peers for his talents. Lee was a wonderful person and a valued friend. He made friends for life because of his loyalty, honesty and sincerity of character. He was a humble man.

Lee was raised in church, where he was active and his entire family were lovely people.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of the home, a farm they retired to and purchased from Shirley’s parents, Ray and Esther Hobbs, in 1996. The farm has been in the family since 1960 when Ray and Esther bought and retired there from Kansas City, Missouri.

Lee is also survived by one brother, Ervin Schoessel and wife Shirley of Chesterfield, Missouri; one stepbrother, James Morris and wife Myrna of Woodland Hills, California; and one stepsister, Saundra Ashley of Liberty, Missouri. Deceased are two brothers, Albert and wife Lillian Schoessel and Norman and wife Reba Dean Schoessel.

Lee’s eldest son, James Schoessel of Fenton, Missouri, passed away in March 2018, leaving his youngest son, Jay and wife Mary Ellen Schoessel of Chesterfield, Missouri.

Lee had two stepchildren with his wife, Shirley: Kim Robert Bennett of Phoenix, Arizona, and Terry Bennett Hardin of Jefferson City, Missouri. Lee leaves many family members, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, step-nephews and -nieces, and extended family members, too many to mention here.

Arrangements were under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool. Burial will be in Galloway Village, Springfield, Missouri, at the Galloway Cemetery next to Klingner-Cope Funeral Home. A memorial service will not be held until spring, as Lee was cremated.
