Doyn W. Upton, 93, passed from this life on March 2, 2019 at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Missouri.
He was born October 5, 1925 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Odes K. and Doshia (Webster) Upton. A 1941 graduate of Gainesville High School, he went on to serve in the United States Navy for three years. He was a World War II veteran who served on the USS Lunga Point.
After his service Doyn was married to Tansy Hargis on February 25, 1947. To this union two children were born, Jack and Janene. In February of this year they celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary.
In the late 1950s he worked in a foundry, making patterns for oilrigs in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Then in the early 1960s the family moved to Ava, Missouri. In 1982 Doyn retired as manager from Town & Country Supermarket in Cabool, Missouri. After retirement Doyn and Tansy had a farm in Cabool, then later moved to West Plains. In 2010 they decided to move back to Cabool to be closer to their family.
Doyn enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, gardening and many outdoor projects.
He is survived by his wife, Tansy; his son, Jack and wife Tracy of Dauphin Island, Alabama; his daughter, Janene Thompson and husband Randy of Cabool; a grandson, Jason C. Thompson and wife Tammy of Springfield, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Victoria and Daman Thompson; and two brothers, Bobby Upton and wife Irene of Independence, Missouri, and Ned Upton and wife Dorothy of Isabella, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gene; and two sisters, Grace and Elouise.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment with full military honors will be in Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool. Online condolences may be made at www.egcfuneralhome.com.
