Karen Sue Smith, 68, of Kingsville, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at Lee’s Summit Medical Center.
Karen was born April 2, 1951 in Independence, Missouri, daughter of Luther and Nadine Parsons Rhodes. She attended Gravel Point one-room school near Dunn, Missouri. Later, she attended school at Cabool, Missouri, then Kingsville High School and a high school in Columbia.
She was married to Thomas C. Smith in spring of 1968.
Karen was united in marriage to Robert C. Smith on February 14, 1978 at Harrisonville, Missouri. The couple made their home in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, for a brief time prior to moving to their current home near Kingsville in the fall of 1978.
Her hobbies included embroidery. Since 2002, she enjoyed traveling with her husband Bob in the couple’s RV and camping. For the past ten years, they wintered at Del Rio, Texas.
Survivors include her husband, Bob; five sons, Randy Joe Smith of Clinton, Missouri, Sean David Smith of Columbia, Missouri, Christopher Michael Smith (Jennifer) of Grandview, Missouri, Jeffery Allen Smith (Barbara) of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Robert Charles Smith, II of Grandview; sister, Linda Glenn (Stephen) of Cabool, Missouri; sister-in-law, Julie Rhodes of Cabool; five grandchildren and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Cathy Rust; and brother, Francis Luther Rhodes.
A celebration of life service will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2019, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden, Missouri. There will be a private interment of ashes at Moreau Cemetery, near Tipton, Missouri, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
