Derek Martin Shultz, 44, of St. James, Missouri, passed away on January 6, 2020 in St. Louis, Missouri.
He was born on May 15, 1975 in Springfield, Missouri.
Derek attended Cabool Schools from kindergarten through graduation in 1993. He excelled in band, art, and loved to read and write. Derek also attended Rolla Technical Institute where he earned a certificate in drafting and design.
Derek married Katie Burch in 2003 and had two lovely children, Quinn Martin and Brett Elizabeth Shultz. They made their home in St. James and have been active in school and community activities.
Derek had many passions. He loved playing the guitar and drums, reading, fishing, learning and passing along what he knew to his children. He loved knowledge.
Derek was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Martin Lee Eddlemon; paternal grandfather, Dwight Shultz; and paternal grandmother, Mara Lahe Shultz.
He is survived by his wife, Katie Shultz and children Quinn and Brett Shultz of St. James; his parents, Sonie and Bill Trotter of Cabool, Missouri, and Jeffrey and Deborah Shultz of Talequah, Oklahoma; his sister, Penelope Dunckel of Monterey, California; brothers, Jeffrey Shultz II, Matthew Bryce Trotter, and Zachary Ray Trotter of Springfield; his maternal grandmother, Martha Jane Eddlemon of Springfield; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He will be dearly missed and remembered for his sense of humor and fun.
Memorial visitation was held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2020, with services following at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Arrangements were under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool. Online condolences may be made at www.egcfuneralhome.com.
