Gloria Fonda Crosby, 78 – Passed August 12, 2020

Gloria Fonda Crosby, 78, of Macomb, Missouri, passed away on August 12, 2020 in her home surrounded by her dear husband and family.

She was born on April 10, 1942 in Alma, Georgia, to Lawton and Macie Westberry. Gloria was raised in the South alongside her siblings Sarah, Frankie, Edward, Bobbie, Alex and Charlene. She graduated from Patterson High School in 1960.

Gloria and Sam met in 1959. They courted for three years. When Sam came back from basic training, he proposed at the train station on October 10, 1962. On October 15, 1962, she was united in marriage to Samuel Lewis Crosby. Together they celebrated 57 years of marriage. Their first child, Kevin, was born on November 23, 1963, their son Tony was born on December 30, 1965, and their daughter Terri was born on October 6, 1968.

Gloria and Sam began raising their young family in Georgia while he was in the U.S. Navy. On October 2, 1969, Gloria and Sam both came to know Christ as their Savior and began living their life for Him. In 1976 they surrendered to be missionaries and served in Brazil, South America until 1992. In 1992 they returned and began pastoring in south Georgia at Coastal Baptist Church for 17 years. Then they moved to Missouri in 2013 where they then began serving as pastor at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church in Cabool, Missouri. She came to love Missouri very much. She was a wonderful pastor’s wife and friend.

Gloria enjoyed all types of cooking and spent countless hours canning with her husband. She loved to cook meals for her family. That was her love language; if you were sick, no doubt she would stop everything and make you chicken and noodles. During the holidays, she would always make sure everyone had their favorite pie. At Christmas time she would spend days making cookies and goodies to take to their church folk and she will always be the one who makes the best peanut butter bars.

Gloria and Sam loved to travel and visit their friends; she was a dear friend to many. She was an amazing “Mom” and “Granny,” delighting in the details of her family’s lives.

In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by two loving brothers and one sister.

Those left holding her memory dear in their hearts are her children, Kevin and wife Joelle, Tony and wife Liese, and Terri and husband Paul; grandchildren, Phillip, Tiffany, Brittany, Stephanie, Garrett, Chloe and Deanna; and great-grandchildren, Mason, Micah, Sofia, Sadie, Maclain, Gage, Gabriella, Rosalie, Ezra, Oliver, Eyla and Evangeline.

Gloria was a person who reminded all most importantly Jesus was the most important thing, always do what would honor him and secondly always value family. Love them and cherish them; she always did! Her daughter said it this way, she was so very loved and always a picture of grace. “We will be keeping that picture in our hearts until we see her again in Heaven.”

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2020, at Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church with Paul Pritchard and Rick Fairbanks officiating. Pallbearers were Phillip Pritchard, Josh Keeny, Ben Withem, Garrett Crosby, David Running and Jon King. Interment was in Mt.
