Betty Lou Roberts, 96, passed away at 11:00 p.m. on December 3, 2020, at Bentley’s Extended Care in Saint Louis, Missouri.
She was born June 8, 1924, in Cabool, Missouri, to the late Gersh and Lulu Elizabeth Davis Roberts.
She was united in marriage on June 8, 1940, to Byron E. Coats, Jr. To this union was born a daughter, Anne Elizabeth (Coats) Truskowski of Saint Louis, Missouri.
Betty was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert (Gib) Edward Roberts and Billy Joe Roberts; a sister, Roberta Faye Jones; a son-in-law, Michael W. Truskowski; and two nephews, Eddie and Gary Gib Roberts.
Betty was an exceptional cook and a wonderful seamstress. She loved to garden and helped her husband in their grocery store, Byron’s Market, in Cabool.
Betty was a lifelong member of Cabool Christian Church and was baptized in her twenties.
At age 50 she went to LPN school in West Plains, Missouri, and graduated second in her class. She worked at Texas County Memorial Hospital for several years and then moved to Saint Louis to be near her daughter and grandchildren. She and Byron were divorced in 1975.
She is survived by her daughter, Anne E. Truskowski; two grandsons, Geoff Truskowski and his wife, Laura; Chris Truskowski and his wife, Kristin; a granddaughter, Abbie Truskowski; two great-grandsons, Gabriel and Matthew Truskowski; three nieces; and one sister-in-law, Vada Roberts.
Betty will be cremated in Saint Louis. A private celebration of her extraordinary life will be held at a later date. Betty was a very generous and loving person and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
