Jim McMinn was born October 7, 1948 to Claude and Ila McMinn in Wauneta, Nebraska. He passed away April 2, 2021 at Cabool, Missouri.
He had one older sister, Carol; three younger sisters, Josephine, Patricia and Elizabeth; and a younger brother, Claude, Jr.
Jim graduated high school in Imperial, Nebraska, in 1966. He like to help, save and doctor wounded and sick animals as a kid and excelled in his science and math classes, so he decided to go to school to become a veterinarian. He attended college in Nebraska and then went to the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. By working hard and taking extra classes he graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree one year early, on May 15, 1973.
In 1974 he bought Cabool Veterinary Clinic along with John Brewer. He later bought out John’s part and had practiced there since.
He was married to Patsy Ann Carman from 1971 to 1984. He married Linda Faye Lane in 1985 and from that union four sons, Justin, Josh, Jason and Jeremy, were born. The marriage ended in 1995.
Under his yearbook photo it stated, “Dynamite comes in small packages.” His sister related that when he was in school, he set up a stink bomb made to go off while no one was around, and after it successfully went off, everyone knew who was responsible because he was the only one that was able to do it.
“Doc” was a selfless man who put everyone else first. He believed in hard work, treating others the way you would like to be treated, and not gouging your neighbor for a dollar. When he wasn’t taking care of someone’s sick cat or dog or working on someone’s down cow, he loved spending time with his family. He loved to take the grandkids fishing, out to the movies or out to eat, and enjoyed yearly trips to Six Flags with his kids and grandkids and riding the rides. He also enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing when he had time. He will be dearly missed by his family and the community.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Elizabeth, Patricia and Carol; his parents, Claude and Ila McMinn; and two grandchildren, Jamen and Jaedyn Lee.
He lives on through his sons, Justin, Josh, Jason and Jeremy; his grandchildren, Eliza, John, Jacie, Jaelyn, Jasmine and Journey; a sister, Josephine; and a brother, Claude, Jr.
