Hurshel Richard Smallwood, 89, of Cabool, Missouri, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 10, 2021, at his home.
He was born on March 29, 1932 in Topaz, Missouri, the son of James and Mellie (Wood) Smallwood. He graduated from Cabool High School with the Class of 1950 and served as the class president.
Hurshel moved to Fontana, California, and worked for Kaiser Steel Corporation, retiring in 1982 and moving back to Missouri in 1986. He was a faithful servant of God and was a member of Cabool General Baptist Church. He was a father, dad, mentor and friend; he was loved by all.
Hurshel was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Mike; his daughter, Pattie; first wife, Lonna; sister, Larna; and brothers, Junior, J.H. and Felus.
He is survived by his wife, Rena; sons, Ronnie Smallwood and wife Judi, Kirk Hagan and wife Lynn, Jerry Hagan and wife Lori, and Dr. Rodney Reid and wife Carrie; daughter, Sandy Berkshire; ten grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at Cabool General Baptist Church with John Williams officiating. Pallbearers were Joshua Hagan, Kenny Townsend, Kaleb Berkshire, Shaun Ackerman, Dr. Rodney Reid and Bryan Stevenson. Honorary pallbearers were Hurshel’s kin. Private family interment was in Mt.
